Pokémon is celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year, and is already rolling out plenty of special projects for the occasion. This April, Pikachu will make it’s on-court debut in the form of PUMA’s All-Pro Nitro 2 basketball sneaker.
Pokemon is considered the highest-grossing media franchise of all time, so it’s no surprise the brand has built up quite a resume in the sneaker world. Over the years, collaborations have spanned a wide range of brands, including Fila in 2018, adidas and Converse in 2020, Asics in 2021, and Clarks and Balmain in 2022. Crocs also regularly releases pairs inspired by specific ‘mons. With 2026 marking the franchise’s 30th anniversary, things are only going to get bigger. adidas is reviving its partnership with Pokemon for a fall 2026 anniversary collection featuring retro-inspired graphics, and now, we have our first look at PUMA’s contribution to the anniversary celebration.
PUMA and Pokémon have selected one of the Pocket Monster’s mascots to be the face of their upcoming sneaker release, which officially brings Pokémon to the basketball court for the first time. Pikachu stars in their initial release for the year, using his color palette and details to inspire a fresh take on the All-Pro Nitro 2, one of the German footwear brand’s flagship basketball shoes for the season. The model comes dressed in an electrifying yellow colorway, adding red suede panels to some of the eyelets to mimic Pikachu’s cheeks. The heels also add a reddish-brown pull tab jutting out, echoing the end of a Pikachu’s tail.

The release of Pokemon’s upcoming basketball shoes with PUMA has been scheduled to release on April 1st, 2026. Pikachu will make his performance debut in the form of the All-Pro Nitro 2 model, dressed in bright yellow with red accents to mimic the ‘mon’s cheek electrodes. Pairs will be available through the PUMA website and select retailers for $140.
