adidas’ XLG 2.0 Mimics Pharrell’s Jellyfish Sneaker at a Lower Price Tag

0

adidas and Pharrell are getting ready to debut their new Jellyfish sneaker this season. This week, new information from adidas details a remarkably similar silhouette, the XLG 2.0, offering a more affordable version of the hyped collab style.

This year, we’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of Pharrell Williams’ next signature silhouette with adidas. Dubbed the Jellyfish, the model takes inspiration from retro adidas running shoes, and applied a wild series of molded TPU overlays to the silhouette. The model’s flagship colorway comes in a clean white palette with striking orange accents, though we’ve also seen a grey pair worn by the Clipse, as well as two more styles in black & white/blue. Now, it appears adidas is looking to capitalize on the hype with a takedown version of the shoe.

This week, the adidas XLG 2.0 surfaced on our timelines, and is very clearly a cheaper version of the upcoming Pharrell release. The Three Stripes have used the XLG name before, mostly when referring to extra thick soles on their iconic models, so its a bit unclear why this is a 2.0 version. The look features a nearly identical shape and construction to the Jellyfish, but uses standard mesh and synthetic overlays as opposed to the molded plastic version.

ADIDAS XLG 2.0 “BLACK” RELEASE INFORMATION

adidas new takedown version of Pharrell’s Jellyfish shoe, currently dubbed XLG 2.0, is not expected to release until 2026. Slimming down the hyped model it is directly inspired by, the shoe retains the general shape and paneling of its predecessor. Seen her in a simple black colorway, pairs will likely be available through adidas and select retailers for $150.

Nigel Sylvester Debuts “Better With Time” Jordan Collab at GO Ride NYC

Nigel Sylvester’s annual GO Ride returned to NYC for its third year, but this time with a special twist that made it more than just another BMX event. Through McDonald’s innovative “1 in 8” program, which celebrates former crew members who have gone on to achieve remarkable success, this year’s event also served as a vibrant tribute to Nigel’s upcoming Air Jordan 1 Low “Better With Time” sneaker. The release embodies his journey of patience, growth, and passion, seamlessly blending BMX culture with personal storytelling.

JustFreshKicks was invited for a VIP breakfast and got exclusive time with Nigel before the ride began, giving us a front-row seat to what would become one of the most meaningful community events of the year.

The shoe is a metaphor for the parts of life that deepen instead of fade: relationships, passion projects, and personal growth. We all want quick wins, but the stuff that lasts usually arrives slowly. Patience has a look. Presence has a texture. Nigel’s riding is the cleanest example and that rhythm shows up on his AJ1s, right down to the aged edges.

The McDonald’s 1 in 8 Program

Before the global tours and viral films, Nigel Sylvester clocked shifts at McDonald’s, saving for his next bike. That job taught him discipline, time management, and hustle. These skills didn’t just pay the bills, but they built his foundation. The McDonald’s “1 in 8” program, which Nigel is part of, highlights that one in eight Americans has worked at McDonald’s, emphasizing how these early jobs foster essential life skills that fuel future success. The program celebrates this shared experience, connecting a diverse community of former crew members who carry those lessons forward.

Nigel’s partnership brings this full circle: he’s repping the 1 in 8 community as a past crew member, giving back authentically by gifting exclusive Air Jordan 1 Low “Better With Time” pairs to McDonald’s crew members in a gesture that says, “I remember where I came from.” It’s gratitude with laces on.

Nigel Sylvester smiling with McDonald’s employees after gifting them “Better With Time” Air Jordan 1 Low sneakers at Extra Butter NYC.

The long arc of a creator

If you’ve been tracking Nigel’s path, you know this wasn’t sudden. The Nike SB “S.O.M.P.” Dunk High in 2014 broke ground as a BMX link-up. In 2018, the first Air Jordan 1 collab was hand-distressed to mimic actual wear. He rewrote what a BMX x Jordan story could look like. He’s customized Air Force 1s, rolled out the Jordan Biking Co. concept, and even dropped a one-of-one Fendi BMX. The man treats design like a narrative medium. He also built a career outside the contest circuit. The GO series is a first-person lens on movement and city, which pulled millions in, not with medals, but with a point of view.

We’re living fast. Scrolls fly by; hype cycles reset weekly. This shoe pushes back. It asks for patience, either on foot or in life. Wear it. Mark it up. Let the edges fray. Let the leather show the miles and the moments. Some things don’t fade; they deepen.

Breakfast with Nigel

Before diving into the day’s action, we started the morning over breakfast with Nigel and the McDonald’s crew. We covered everything from sneaker news to his Jordan Brand future, and his genuine excitement for the day’s ride was palpable. Nigel was kind, grateful, and clearly doing what he loves. When asked about his favorite part of GO Ride events, he shared a sentiment that perfectly captures his approach: “Riding with the kids—that’s what it’s all about. Seeing their faces light up when they realize what’s possible on a bike.”

Our exclusive time with Nigel revealed insights into both his McDonald’s experience and his philosophy on storytelling through design. Here are the highlights from our conversation:

Can you share a specific story from your time at McDonald’s that shaped your perspective as a BMX athlete or entrepreneur?

Nigel Sylvester: “I think it’s the overall sentiment of things I learned. From working in a team setting, the responsibility of showing up on time, being diligent, and working hard. Like, you know, going in, working those shifts, and working doubles. With the thought, like, man, I’m saving up to get my next bike. It was more than just the actual dollars; it’s the opportunity that it gave me, you know? And also, just two of my best friends worked at the same time. So that was super cool.

We noticed that you like telling stories, and your stories always continue into the packaging of your shoes. Why is the packaging so important to you?

Nigel Sylvester: “The packaging is the first interaction that you have with the sneakers. I always pay so close attention to my rollout. From the moment that people hear I’m doing a shoe to the moment they get the shoe on their foot, I want that whole journey to be considered. So I think it’s important that the moment the consumer touches the product, that journey continues.

This philosophy explains why the “Better With Time” packaging includes that hand-drawn bike on the inside box lid—it’s Nigel’s personal touch, showing how much it means to him to tell his story through every detail.

Extra Butter Pop-Up

After breakfast, Extra Butter held a Pop-Up where we got the chance to examine the “Better With Time” Air Jordan 1 Low up close, and the details were even more impressive in person.

The lateral swoosh removal with the traced outline, the aged midsole and outsole, the distressed marks throughout—each element told a story. The hand-drawn bike on the inside box lid wasn’t just a design element; it was proof of the personal touch Nigel puts into these collaborations.

GO Ride Through NYC

The community gathering point buzzed with energy as riders from all backgrounds came together. Then came the surprise of the day: Ronald McDonald himself made an appearance on a Citi Bike, perfectly capturing the playful spirit of the event.

The ride through NYC was a celebration of movement, creativity, and camaraderie. Tricks were pulled, content was captured, and the city became our playground. The final stop back at Extra Butter brought free water and McDonald’s food for riders, and an unexpected treat: A$AP Ferg previewed his new “Bike Air Anthem”, a catchy song to encapsulate the event.

The grand finale saw Nigel and Ronald McDonald tossing GO Ride merch from a food truck, a fitting close that embodied the event’s community spirit and the full-circle nature of the partnership.

Props to McDonald’s and Nigel for hosting such an event that brought together community, culture, and creativity. The GO Ride NYC 2025 wasn’t just about BMX or sneakers—it was about celebrating the journey, honoring the process, and recognizing that the best things in life don’t happen overnight.

For readers who want to dive deeper into the sneaker details, [check out our full breakdown of the Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 1 Low “Better With Time” here].

The event proved that when brands and creators come together with authentic purpose, the result is something that resonates far beyond the immediate community. It’s about building something that lasts, something that gets better with time.

Nike’s Gore-Tex Air Max Sunder Returns in “Burgundy Crush” This Fall

The Air Max Sunder made a grand return to Nike’s catalog last Fall, after twenty-plus years in their archives. While the hype has died down a bit, Nike continues to produce fresh new takes, like this “Burgundy Crush” Gore-Tex lined pair, coming soon.

Nike’s retro releases of iconic sneakers are (almost) always on point. Last Fall, they delivered a faithful remake of the cult-classic Air Max Sunder, a shrouded running shoe that originated in the brand’s late ’90s/early ’00s Alpha Project. Featuring a neoprene inner bootie and zippered shroud, the Sunder is just as cool in 2025 as it was in 2000. Along with the shoe’s neon launch lineup from last Fall, the Swoosh also introduced a Gore-Tex version of the sneaker for rainier days.

This week, we have a first look at the first new colorway for the Sunder’s Gore-tex edition since the original trio of styles release last Winter. Perfect for a quick mission in wet weather, the new look dresses the shoe in a seasonally-appropriate “Burgundy Crush” shade. This color covers the shoe’s shroud panels, as well as the plastic ventilation pieces along the mudguard. The rest of the shoe comes in black.

NIKE AIR MAX SUNDER GORE-TEX “BURGUNDY CRUSH” RELEASE INFORMATION

Nike’s new colorway of their Gore-Tex Air Max Sunder has not been announced for release yet. Featuring a waterproof lining, this new look is dressed in “Burgundy Crush” and expected to release in Fall 2025, available from both Nike and select retailers. The price tag for this look has been given a slight bump to $200.

Nike’s First In-Line Astrograbber Colors Release in July 2025

0

In Spring 2024, Nike and Bode released their first collaboration, highlighting the long-dormant Astrograbber as their sneaker of choice. This Summer, the model is finally getting a wide release, with Soft Yellow and Alumina colorways available for their Summer 2025 pack.

Way back in 1974, Nike introduced the Astrograbber to their performance shoe offerings. In response to the growing trend of Astroturf replacing natural grass in professional sports, athletes needed a new shoe that could grip the plastic material and provide better traction on the new surface. The Astrograbber was the Swoosh’s answer, hence the name, and was inspired by Bill Bowerman’s experiments with the iconic waffle sole.

The Astrograbber faded into obscurity as Nike advanced their performance innovations, until last year, when Bode helped revived the model as a part of their debut Nike collaboration, fifty years after its introduction. Bode and Nike followed up this March with a second round of colors for the model, and now, Nike is preparing the Astrograbber for its return to their in-line catalog. Appearing on the AsphaltGold release calendar, the first pairs are scheduled to land later this month in two Summer-ready colorways. First up, a Soft Yellow iteration a black accent, while the Alumina blue pair adds buttery yellow tones to the Swooshes and laces. Both pairs sport vintage black & orange Nike logos on the tongues.

Dressed in two colorways for the occasion, Soft Yellow and Alumina blue, AsphaltGold is the first retailer to surface the new styles, and has them listed for approx. $160.

The Nike Astrograbber Dons Green & Sail for a Summer Release

0

Nike’s Astrograbber was an interesting choice for Bode’s debut Swoosh collaboration, reviving a 50-year-old sneaker. Now, the model has its first in-line styles on the way, including a smooth green & sail build, coming soon.

Way back in 1974, Nike introduced the Astrograbber to their performance shoe offerings. The silhouette was a response to the growing trend of astroturf replacing real grass in professional arenas. Athletes needed a new kind of footwear that provided better grip and traction on the sleek new plastic material. The Astrograbber was the Swoosh’s answer, hence the very literal name, and built on Bill Bowerman’s experiments with the iconic waffle sole.

This season, the Astrograbber finally returns to Nike’s in-line catalog, following its two releases in collaboration with Bode. Last week, we got our first look at new blue & yellow colors of the simple model, which are hitting shelves overseas this week. Today, a third style has surfaced, likely joining its counterparts for the debut lineup when they hit shelves in the States. The new pair comes in a lush green shade, constructed from smooth nubuck with a white leather Swoosh on either side.

NIKE ASTROGRABBER “GREEN/SAIL” RELEASE INFORMATION

After releasing in two separate projects with Bode, Nike’s Astrograbber is finally rejoining the brand’s in-line catalog, with the first pairs arriving overseas this week. The global release is currently scheduled for August 26th, 2025, via the SNKRS app. Pairs will be available from both Nike and select retailers, and are expected to come with a $160 price tag.

Nike SB’s Dunk Low Surfaces in a New “Mineral Slate” Sample

While Nike SB is well known for their work collaborative work with skaters, artists, and musicians, their in-line catalogue is some of the best of Nike’s offerings. This week, we have a first look at a new “Mineral Slate” colorway of the Dunk Low, hopefully releasing in 2026.

Nike SB continues to create the best version of the iconic Dunk Low, with their fat tongue and modified midsole for better performance on a skateboard. Different variations of the shoe have come over the years, each with their own unique twist, but the original still stands as one of the best styles (and maybe the easiest to get your hands on). While SB releases are all limited, given that they are only given to skate shop accounts, some colorways are more sought-after than others.

This week, a new sample has surfaced for the 2026 release slate, which might get sneakerheads clamoring to find a pair. The look features a “Mineral Slate” shade as its base, and a largely suede construction. The slate tone appears as a dark teal, and is applied to the shoe’s base layer. The overlay panels come in an off-white tone, though this could be the pale pink “Particle Rose” color listed in the shoe’s information. Dark Raisin purple Swooshes adorn either side of the shoe, while gum soles complete the look.

NIKE SB DUNK LOW “MINERAL SLATE” RELEASE INFORMATION

Nike SB’s latest new Dunk Low sample colorway has not been announced for release, and likely will not reach stores until sometime in 2026. Dressed in a new “Mineral Slate” teal color, this is paired with an off-white shade and dark purple accents for a unique new look. Pairs will likely be available exclusively through the SNKRS app and local skate shops should they release, and will cost $120.

adidas Presents New Waxed Canvas Styles of the BW Army in Fall Colors

0

adidas’ retro BW Army trainer returned in full this year, though releases have been few and far between. Today, the Three Stripes added a two-pack of waxed canvas styles to their release calendar, with tonal Fall color schemes. Pairs release this week.

The adidas BW Army originated in the 1970s, when the Three Stripes made custom, unbranded trainers for the West German army. After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the military group, thousands of these trainers were stored in warehouses until being found and redistributed to the masses. The silhouette became a cult classic, one that has spawned an immensely popular Margiela Replica sneaker. Now, adidas is reclaiming their design, with a fresh wave of releases in 2025.

This week, it appears adidas is jumping the gun on Fall colors. Over the weekend, the Three Stripes updated their release calendar to add two new pairs of the BW Army to this week’s drops, dressing the shoe in two tonal styles perfect for the coming seasonal change. The pack also makes some material changes to the silhouette. Both pairs feature a waxed canvas underlay with frayed edges for each canvas panel. Toe caps and eyestays come in soft suedes, while the inner lining comes in a veg-tan leather. Colors come in either a “Grey” shade, which appears more brown in official photos, or a “Silver Pebble” shade, while has a nice tint of green to it.

Another Caitlin Clark Player Edition sneaker has joined the roster of upcoming releases. Originally debuted on court last year after winning the ROTY award, Nike’s specially crafted Kobe 5 Protro will be available to the public in 2026.

Ronnie Fieg Updates the Kith x adidas Superstar “Black Tie” With a 2.0 Version

Ronnie Fieg is going back to his roots for the latest Kith x adidas project. Calling back to his very first Three Stripes collaboration, they’ve unveiled the “Black Tie 2.0” edition of the Superstar, releasing this Fall.

Ronnie Fieg and his Kith brand’s presence in the world of sneakers has loomed large over the last 15+ years. Fieg got his start working at NYC retailer David Z., where he formed his current relationships with many brands by creating SMU sneaker releases for the store. Since then, he has grown his tastes into a veritable empire through Kith, with stores on multiple continents, and new releases every single week. This morning, Ronnie shared an early look at an upcoming adidas project, which celebrates his first release with the Three Stripes way back in 2008.

The next Kith x adidas release will return to the Superstar, updating their 2008 “Black Tie” style for 2025. The new 2.0 version makes some distinct changes for the update, but retains the shoe’s high quality materials, meant to be worn with a suit. The new look comes from adidas’ growing Made in Germany line, meaning a higher level of craftsmanship. The pair sports a sleek leather upper, replaces the traditional rubber toe cap with a leather one, and adds other small details like waxed laces for a formal look. The update also adds white stripes and heel counters, just in case people wouldn’t notice you wearing sneakers with a suit.

Harris Tweed Lends Their Signature Textile to the Nike Dunk Low

0

Scotland’s Harris Tweed is one of the most iconic textiles in fashion, known for their attention to quality and made entirely from scratch in the Outer Hebrides. This year, Nike is applying the signature wool fabric to a new pack of Dunk Lows.

Harris Tweed is a special fabric that has been woven in Scotland for generations. The textile is not made by a specific brand, but the Harris name refers to the island Lewis with Harris, one of a series of islands that make up the Outer Hebrides, roughly 25 miles from the Scottish mainland. The cloth’s integrity is maintained by the Harris Tweed Authority, whose guidelines ensure that any fabric officially designated as Harris Tweed is “handwoven by the islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the Outer Hebrides, and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides.”

This year, Nike is preparing to release a special collection of their iconic Dunk Low, constructed with fabrics guaranteed as Harris Tweed by the Authority. The pack will feature two colorways of the low-top model, one of which has surfaced in official images this week. The look comes in a simple mix of black and white fibers, spun and woven into a unique pattern that falls somewhere between houndstooth and checkerboard. The tongues feature official Harris Tweed labels, and inner linings come in a soft red fabric to complete the look.

HARRIS TWEED X NIKE DUNK LOW RELEASE INFORMATION

The upcoming release from Nike, incorporating Harris Tweed textiles into their iconic Dunk Low, has not been announced yet but is currently expected to arrive in Fall 2025. Seen here in a simple black & white checkered pattern with a fuzzy exterior, pairs will likely release form both Nike and select retailers, with an expected price tag of $140.
