The Nike Waffle Trainer 2 returned earlier this year in a special retro run celebrating the history of the legendary running shoe. Now, Nike is taking further inspiration from their past, with the new Waffle Trainer 2 “Shoe Dog”, available now.
Nike’s Waffle Trainer was one of the first official shoes from the brand, bearing both the Nike name and Swoosh logo. Since then, the Waffle family has expanded dramatically, staying true to its name through the use of its unique waffle-inspired outsole. Currently, Nike is in the midst of a retro run of the Waffle Trainer 2, a vintage ’70s style that is perfectly at home in today’s sneaker world thanks to a clean design and limitless color options. This week the Swoosh unveiled a special-edition new colorway of the Waffle Trainer 2, designed to pay homage to Nike co-founder Phil Knight’s memoir about the founding of the brand; Shoe Dog. Specifically, this Waffle Trainer tells the story of the inaugural Honolulu Marathon in 1973, an occasion that Knight describes in the book as a turning point for Nike, and an important step for introducing the Swoosh to the world after it debuted the previous year. The look begins with a pale off-white tone for the nylon base layer, reinforced by sand-colored suede around the mudguard, heels, and laving system. The Swoosh and inner lining come in an eye-catching “Laser Blue” tone to represent the ocean, while other details include Phil Knight’s signature on the medial sides of the midsole, and an entry ticket for the Honolulu Marathon embossed on the outer heels.

Nike’s latest colorway of the classic Waffle Trainer 2 released earlier this week, and is currently available exclusively through the Swoosh’s Member Access portal. The limited-edition Pearl White/Laser Blue color scheme pairs is available in a wide range of sizes, with a price tag of just $90.
