Nike’s Vintage Waffle Trainer 2 Emerges in a Red & Blue Color Scheme

The vintage Nike Waffle Trainer 2 made a grand return this year, arriving in retro form after a several-year hiatus. Now, it appears Nike has readied plenty of new colorways for the year, including this eye-catching red & blue version, coming soon.

Nike’s Waffle Trainer is one of the brand’s oldest sneakers. Dreamt up by Bill Bowerman himself when he was still the Oregon track coach, the Waffle shoe was intended to give runners better grip on the track and more control over their running. The first samples were made exactly how the name implies- by pouring rubber directly into his wife’s waffle maker to create outsoles. Since then, the Waffle series has remained an essential part of the Nike story, releasing in new styles and colorways to this day, like this new high-contrast color scheme we have an early look at this week. Beginning with a blue nylon base layer, this pair adds suede overlays in bright red as well as silver metallic Swooshes for an interesting new look.
