Nike’s Free family is expanding this season, with the addition of a new outdoor-ready adaptation of the popular running technology. Check out the new Free Run Trail 5.0 in “Thunder Blue”, coming this Summer.
The roots of Nike’s Free technology were originally planted in the early 2000s, as the brand’s sports science team was researching the natural movement of the foot on various surfaces. They quickly discovered that an athlete’s two feet were far more flexible and adaptive than any shoe that had been created for them, and the good folks at Nike set about adapting this research into their footwear. The result was a new style of the midsole, featuring deep, jagged cuts in all directions to allow the various portions to separate and move autonomously, reacting as the foot needed them. Since then, Nike designers have been constantly iterating, trying new cuts and ways to create a more adaptive midsole, and periodically introducing updates to their lineup. This year, the Free Run Trail returns for its fifth iteration, bringing with it a new midsole and single-piece construction of the upper. Today, we have an early look at an upcoming “Thunder Blue” iteration, which dresses the suede portion of the upper entirely in the namesake blue shade, while the mesh bootie and heel sections come in a dusty orange tone.
NIKE FREE RUN TRAIL 5.0 “THUNDER BLUE” RELEASE INFORMATION
Nike’s latest colorway of the newly minted Free Run Trail 5.0 has not yet been announced for release, though they are expected to land on retail shelves sometime in the coming weeks. The high contrast “Thunder Blue” color scheme will be available from both Nike and select retailers, with a price tag of $110.
