Nike’s archives of Air footwear are overflowing with potential retro releases and new inspiration, which the Swoosh is slowly working its way through with each passing year. This week, we have an early look at an upcoming retro for 2021, the Air Structure Triax ’91.
Nike’s experimentation with its Air technology was progressing rapidly in the late ’80s and ’90s, with new innovations launching on a yearly basis. Among the first of these futuristic first steps was the Air Structure Triax from 1991, which introduced a number of firsts for Air technology including the first-ever symmetrical underfoot airbags. The Structure Triax was lauded by Nike fans for its supreme comfort and stability as a running shoe and has since gone down as one of the most beloved Nike Air shoes to date. Now, after we last saw it in 2008 for a limited retro release, the Air Structure Triax is set to make a return in 2021, thirty years after its debut in 1991. While we are still waiting on an official announcement from Nike, the original Structure silhouette has already emerged in two upcoming color schemes reminiscent of its original releases, one in white, grey, and purple, and the second, seen here, in white, navy blue, and finished with gold accents.
