Nike has created a lot of special edition sneakers over the years, though not every pair makes it to the historical record. Enter the “Olympic” Air Max 95 from 2004, which is now rumored to get a new release in 2026.
Nike loves a special occasion to release limited-edition sneakers. The Swoosh frequently uses holidays or local celebrations to provide inspiration for their specialty releases, like the upcoming “King’s Day” Air Max 1 or the “Easter” edition Air Force 1, both releasing this month. Way back in 2004, the brand celebrated the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, with a special pair of the Air Max 95. Now, that style is rumored to be getting a retro release in 2026.
In 2004, the Summer Olympic Games returned to their roots, hosted in Greece, the country that invented the competition hundreds of years ago. Set in Athens, the same city that hosted the original modern-day games back in 1896, the 2004 events were a monumental occasion, with plenty of celebration throughout their duration. Nike joined in on the fun by creating a special pair of their Air Max 95, adding the six colors representing the Games to the shoe’s layered upper and lace loops. Final touches included a greek glaf on the tongue and gold Nike Swooshes.
