The Air Force 1 Joins Nike’s “Mexico” World Cup Pack

The FIFA World Cup is starting soon, and sneaker brands are slowly unveiling their special releases for the occasion. This week, Nike’s Air Force 1 has joined the AM95 in donning a a Mexico-themed look, sporting the country’s colors and El Tiempo FC branding.

FIFA’s World Cup tournament only rolls around every four years, and much like the Olympics, sneaker brands roll out tons of special product to celebrate. This year feels a little bit different, thanks to last year’s #BootsOnly social media trend, which saw users wearing soccer cleats as everyday shoes. Several brands pounced on this trend, with adidas and Nike in particular leaning in by making adapted versions of iconic cleats, with soles encased in clear rubber to make them more wearable on surfaces like concrete. Nike’s CryoShot saw a couple of releases, and teased a pair from the Virgil Abloh Archives which is still expected to release this Summer.

However, Nike appears to be leaning more on their traditional sneaker offerings for this Summer’s tournament, with several pairs of Air Max 95s surfacing in recent weeks dedicated to various countries’ national teams. Mexico was the first to get this treatment, and now an Air Force 1 has emerged in a matching look for the retro runner. The AF1 for this forthcoming pack is cleaner, using a satin-like textile for the upper in Phantom White, with some subtle flame embroidery details added. Swooshes and heel tabs come in dark green leather, while a dark red outsole accent completes the colors of the Mexican flag. Finally, El Tiempo FC branding on the heels completes the look.

NIKE AIR FORCE 1 “MEXICO” RELEASE INFORMATION

Nike’s new special-edition style of the Air Force 1 has not been announced for release yet, though the “Mexico” look will presumably launch alongside the matching Air Max 95 for this year’s FIFA World Cup in the Summer. Dressed in Phantom white with green and dark red hits, this pair features the same El Tiempo FC branding as it’s AM95 counterpart. Pairs will be available from both Nike and select retailers for $115.
