Nike is celebrating forty years of their Air Force 1 this year, turning to the communities that have grown the shoe’s legend for their special-edition releases. Today, we have an early look at the AF1 “Little Accra”, coming soon.
The Nike Air Force 1 turns forty years old in 2022, adding another notch in the belt of Bruce Kilgore’s 1982 design. Originally a basketball shoe, the AF1 has turned into one of the most popular lifestyles shoes on Earth. Nike is celebrating the silhouette’s longevity with some special new releases, like this “Little Accra” colorway that celebrates New York City’s Ghanian community. The Air Force has played a major part in NYC’s street culture since its introduction, most commonly referred to as the ‘Uptown’ in the area. This “Little Accra” iteration celebrates Ghanian culture through the use of premium textiles, ornate patterns, and intricate details, from the dual gold lace jewels to the heel counter’s unique embroidery.
