Nike’s ACG line announced their relaunch this season, using the Winter Olympics as a platform to unveil tons of new gear on the athletes. This week, we have an early look at their reinvention of the LDV runner, launching in April.
The Nike LDV debuted in 1978 during Nike’s formative years as a performance running brand. Designed as a lightweight distance trainer, the LDV (short for Long Distance Vector) featured a nylon and suede upper paired with the company’s signature waffle outsole, originally developed by co-founder Bill Bowerman to improve traction on varied surfaces. Known for its slim profile and comfort, the shoe became popular among competitive runners, including trail runners thanks to the added traction from the waffle sole.
This week, an updated take on the LDV has emerged as a part of the Nike ACG relaunch campaign. Shared by @vladieboi, this first look details two colorways of the redesigned silhouette, enhanced for off road pursuits by the ACG team. Their version of the runner appears slightly beefier than the ’70s OG, but retains plenty of the classic looks. Coming in two colorways, “Brilliant Blue” and “Dark Sulfur”, the materials have been updated to use ripstop nylon for the base, and a smooth suede overlay for durability. ACG logos appear on the outer heels, while extra lace loops allow for a bit of adjustment to fit your feet. Finally, the midsole packs a punch with ReactX cushioning foam, and an even chunkier waffle sole tread.
