The New Balance RC56 made its debut back in May in partnership with Aimé Leon Dore. Previously thought to be an ALD signature, the sleek runner has now surfaced in standard-issue styles, Angora red and Gemstone blue, coming soon.
Back in May, Aimé Leon Dore launched a campaign for their latest sneaker project with New Balance, featuring the RC56. The silhouette had initially been teased months earlier through a seasonal lookbook, but did not make its debut until the Spring line hit shelves. Press releases regarding the shoe referred to it as a collaboration between NB & ALD from the ground up, and we assumed this meant it was an ALD signature shoe. In hindsight that was a misinterpretation, seeing as founder Teddy Santis has been working double duty at both brands. Nonetheless, the RC56 joins the New Balance in-line catalogue this month.
The debut release of the RC56 gave us three colorways of the new model through the ALD lens. Now, for their first standard issue styles, New Balance has reimagined the silhouette in two bold colorways for its launch. The first pair comes in an “Angora” red shade, paired with black accents along the upper and toes. The second pair reverses that color blocking, using black for the mesh base layer, laces, and outsole. The rest of this pair is dressed in a smooth “Gemstone” shade of blue.
