New Balance’s Niobium Concept 2 Lands in “Incense” and “Indigo” Colorways This Week

The New Balance Tokyo Design Studio has been cooking up some of the most interesting sneaker releases of the past few years. This week, the TDS team is introducing the Niobium Concept 2, a follow-up to last year’s three-in-one hiking boot, available now.

The New Balance Niobium Concept line was first introduced last year, with a three-in-one sneaker that transformed from house shoe to mule to hiking boot and back, all designed by the brand’s Tokyo Design Studio team. Titled the Niobium Concept 1, the shoe was released in collaboration with Japan’s Snow Peak outdoor brand in a limited-edition color scheme. This week, the Niobium Concept 2 made its debut, again with a limited-edition look curated by Snow Peak. However, this time around the New Balance team has been much quicker on the draw with new colorways, as two have already surfaced on the brand’s website for a release next week. The Niobium Concept 2 is a bit of a change of pace for the series, combining a Fresh Foam running sole unit with a breathable mesh upper to create another hybrid, this time one that goes between a sandal and mule style with the addition or removal of the rear heel strap. The Niobium Concept 2 will land in two colorways at launch, “Incense” and “Indigo”.
