Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s signature sneaker with Converse is getting its boldest look yet. The Converse SHAI 001 “Echo” arrives this week as the first all-over print colorway for SGA’s debut signature model, wrapping the shoe’s futuristic silhouette in a full woodland camouflage pattern. Named after Gilgeous-Alexander’s dog, the “Echo” colorway drops globally on Thursday, April 2nd.
A First for the SHAI 001
Since launching with the “Butter” colorway back in September 2025, the Converse SHAI 001 has kept things clean with a string of monochromatic releases including Charm Black, Masi Blue, Hail Clay, and the more recent Blush and Truffle editions. The “Echo” breaks from that formula entirely, marking the first time SGA’s signature shoe has featured a graphic print. A forest camouflage pattern covers the entire upper, giving the performance basketball shoe a tactical, military-inspired edge that lines up with the camo prints Gilgeous-Alexander has been known to wear off the court.
The camo extends across the shoe’s synthetic and neoprene construction, while the zipper shroud, lining, midsole, and outsole are finished in a solid olive green. An olive TPU heel stabilizer adds a touch of sheen to the back of the shoe, and black Shai logos on the tongue and insole round out the design. It is a more aggressive look than anything the silhouette has carried before, arriving just in time for the NBA’s playoff stretch.
Design and Tech Details
The SHAI 001 was designed closely by Gilgeous-Alexander himself in his role as Creative Director of Converse Basketball, a title he earned alongside a multi-year contract extension signed in April 2024. The shoe is Converse’s first signature basketball model since Elton Brand’s line in 2010, and the design reflects SGA’s dual identity as both a high-level NBA performer and one of the league’s most style-forward players.
On the performance side, the SHAI 001 features a puffed, molded upper that delivers a futuristic look and feel while keeping the foot secure. A forefoot Nike Zoom Air unit provides responsive energy return on each step, and an over-lasted midsole construction gives the shoe a low, connected feel for on-court stability. The outsole uses a radial traction pattern built for quick cuts, directional changes, and explosive movement. A zipper closure system covers the tongue and laces, allowing for adaptive containment with a streamlined look that transitions easily from the court to everyday wear.
