The ASICS Gel-Kayano 5 OG has been a hit since it returned earlier this year. While still making the collaborative rounds, ASICS is back to refreshing the vintage silhouette with new looks, like this bold new colorway dropping sometime soon.
The Asics Gel-Kayano 5 first appeared on the running scene back in 1999, quickly establishing itself as one of the brand’s best offerings. This year, the Gel-Kayano returned twenty years after its debut, featuring all the details and technology that fans loved from the original, and modernizing them to better fit today’s sneaker scene. Features that fans of the original ’99 version will recognize include the bulky look, defined by a heavily layered upper, Asics Tiger branding, and the visible Gel technology in the heel.
Since its return, the Gel Kayano 5 has been a huge hit among Asics fans and vintage running heads. Releases so far have seen the Japanese running brand teaming up with retailers like China’s HBX and Germany’s GmbH, as well as a handful of new and original colorways. This week, Asics revealed their latest fresh colorway for the Kayano 5, which mixes light and dark tones for an eye-catching new look. The shoe’s mesh base layers begin in a dark navy blue tone, with white leather overlays used to reinforce and structure the upper. Flashes of purple, orange, and teal blue are added to the Asics Tiger stripes, inner lining, and heel counters.
Asics’ new Summer-ready colorway of the Gel Kayano 5 has not yet been announced for release in the United States, though it is already available overseas from select retailers like Atmos. The vibrant look will likely retail for the same $120 as previous colorways, and release from both Asics and select retailers.
