Asics’ GEL family is the base for a number of the brand’s classic sneakers. This year, it appears a lesser known member of the family, the GEL-1090, will be making a full retro run, starting with this new silver/gold look this week.
The Asics GEL-1090 is back, after initially making its debut in 2003 as a premiere running shoe, the vintage trainer is making its return in 2021 with a wave of new colors and styles releasing throughout the year. Originally designed to convey the notion of speed through its smooth, curving lines and sleek profile, the 1090 takes inspiration for its shape heavily from motorcycles, while adding in some more aggressive details like the tiger claw marks seen on both the toe box and heel counter overlays. This updated version of the 1090 pars down the silhouette, simplifying the construction of the upper for a more comfortable fit.
