Jordan Brand is continuing their series of “Xuanwu” releases this year, bringing another ‘dark warrior’ inspired look to an iconic sneaker. The Air Jordan 6 is the canvas for this release, donning a premium leather upper with details pulled from dress footwear.
Jordan Brand has contributed to Nike’s Lunar New Year annual releases since their inception, but recently the brand has started it’s own line of special releases arriving early in the year. The first pair arrived last year, featuring the Air Jordan 1 in a special “Xuanwu” colorway for the Year of the Snake. The name comes from Chinese mythology, translating to ‘mysterious warrior’ or ‘dark warrior’. Xuanwu is one of the four main symbols of Chinese cosmology, often depicted as a tortoise intertwined with a snake, symbolizing longevity and resilience. For this year’s release, the Air Jordan 6 is getting a premium upgrade, constructed entirely in very dark brown leather, showing early signs of patina around areas where the leather is stretched in the process of manufacturing, particularly the toes. This pair also incorporates brogueing details for the overlays and the toe box, combining dress shoe styling with the classic silhouette. Painted edges and gold detailing complete this special edition look.
AIR JORDAN 6 “XUANWU” RELEASE INFORMATION
Jordan Brand has not yet announced this year’s release of their special-edition “Xuanwu” sneaker, though pairs are likely arriving sometime soon. Like previous releases bearing the Xuanwu name, this Air Jordan 6 will be a China-exclusive drop, releasing in extremely limited numbers and likely carrying a high price tag, like last year’s $355 AJ1.
