One of the most unusual shoes in adidas’ archives is easily the Kobe 2. Now renamed to the Crazy 2, the chunky, yet somehow sleek silhouette quietly returned this year. Now, news of the “USA” colorway making a comeback for Summer 2026 has surfaced.
Back in the early 2000s, Kobe Bryant’s first sneaker sponsorship was with adidas. The team-up began in the late ’90s, with Kobe wearing KB8s and KB8 IIs up until 2000, when the Three Stripes released his first signature model, the Kobe 1. Inspired by his love of sports cars, the Kobe 1 and 2 both features sleek, minimal designs without heavy layering or stitching. The Kobe 2 in particular was divisive for this reason, taking its shape from the Audi TT. Kobe parted ways with adidas shortly afterward, but the silhouette has lived on in sneaker infamy ever since.
Over the last year, adidas has revived some of their classic Kobe sneakers under the renamed Crazy banner, particularly the Crazy 1. This year, they released a very small batch of the Crazy 1, the first time the shoe has ever been retro’d since KB’s departure from the brand. Now, a very specific colorway is rumored to return in 2026, the “USA” edition. Famously worn by Kobe on opening day of 2021 season, less than two months after 9/11, the shoe features red and white stripes and a bold blue starred top panel. The model was not released to the public, but Kobe did gift a pair to then junior high schooler Lebron James, who wore them in a nationally televised game for St Vincent-St. Mary.
