Melitta Baumeister x Nike Rift Rocker Design
Melitta Baumeister unveiled the shoe in New York City at an immersive showcase called “Molded by Dedication.” It is a full overhaul of the Nike Air Rift and follows her distressed Vomero Premium and Pegasus Plus pack. The Air Rift debuted in 1996, drew on Kenyan barefoot runners and built a cult following in Japan for its tabi toe.
The Rift Rocker keeps the layered build of the Air Rift and the tabi toe. It comes in distressed black leather and “Yukon Brown.” The big change is underfoot. A huge rocker midsole carries large debossed Swooshes on the lateral side and concave areas at the rear and on the medial side. The heel accent echoes the strap ends on the upper.
Baumeister’s eye motif appears on the heel and on the bottom of the insoles, the latter inside a footprint graphic reading “Think Outside.” The inner tongue reads “You Bring The Body, We Bring The Shape” beside a banana graphic with a Swoosh inside it. Puffy stitched Swooshes sit on the forefoot, and Melitta Baumeister branding covers the main strap end. The outsole has a waffle style traction pattern with more collab branding. One of the two pairs adds another foot graphic.
