Vanessa Bryant returned to her sneaker leaking side hustle this week to share a huge range of Kobe sneakers in the works for next year. Among them was a special “Iron Man” themed colorway of the Kobe 9 Elite, expected in 2027.
Nike’s Kobe line has exploded in its output in recent years, thanks to renewed contract negotiations between Vanessa Bryant and the Swoosh. Kobe’s wife has taken up the mantle of giving us sneak peaks at what is in the works for her husband’s signature sneakers, and frequently shares early looks at special colorways via her Instagram page. This week, Vanessa shared a ton of upcoming heat, and one that immediately caught my eye was the “Iron Man” Kobe 9 Elite. Known for its ultra-high cut collar, the 9 Elite is the ideal sneaker for translating Tony Stark’s high-tech armor into sneaker form.
Nike’s take on the Iron Man armor via a Kobe sneaker is about as good as you could hope for for a (probably) unlicensed ode to the shellhead. The look begins with a full Flyknit upper in Stark’s chosen Hot Rod red hue, using welded support overlays along the midfoot, ankle, and collar to add the metallic gold sheen for accents. The Swooshes come in an electric blue shade with a white center, along with a matching blue Kobe logo on the tongues for the repulsor emitters on the hands and feet of the Iron Man armor, as well as the chest plate’s built-in miniature ARC reactor. Unfortunately, we cannot say for sure if J.A.R.V.I.S. will come built in to each pair.
NIKE KOBE 9 ELITE “IRON MAN” RELEASE INFORMATION
Nike has yet to confirm any official release information for the lineup of Kobe sneaker previewed by Vanessa Bryant yesterday, though most are expected to arrive in Spring 2027, including this “Iron Man” Kobe 9 Elite. Given the IP-related inspiration for this color scheme, the pair could be a PE exclusive for one or more players, so we’ll have to just wait and see. Hopefully this bold take on the 9 Elite will be available widely from Nike and secondary retailers.
