FootLocker Opens Pre-Orders for the “Safety Orange” Nike Air Force 1 NYC

Nike Air Force 1 Low Nyc Knicks Pre Order 2026

Air Force 1 pre-orders are the big sneaker story of the day. In addition to the 2001 edition released this morning, FootLocker has opened up pre-orders for their “Safety Orange” NYC edition, shipping in October.

The landscape of sneaker releases is shifting right in front of our eyes. Release methods have undergone many changes in the last ten years, switching from FCFS in-store releases to raffle-focused drops, going a step further with EQL, a service that promises “run fair” selection processes for a small fee to the customer. Now, Nike is going all in on pre-orders, a somewhat unusual drop method in the world of sneakers. Pre-orders are not new, ALD and New Balance have been running them for a few years now. Nike first hinted at the change a few months ago, and the change has suddenly occured this week.

In celebration of the New York Knicks’ NBA Finals win, Nike is rolling out a ton of gear in the teams’ blue, orange, and white colors. How could they have predicted the Knicks would win it all? They didn’t, most of these releases are pre-orders. This allows them to bypass the usual nine- to twelve-month production process, taking money for the customer before needing to purchase materials, and only making exactly what they need with no leftover units. The pre-order conversation has taken over Twitter this week, and if you’re interested in more of the logistics behind it, Corey of Whatever Industries wrote an excellent Substack article covering the subject.

The latest pre-order pair of the day is another Air Force 1 NYC, this time in a bold “Safety Orange” colorway. The pair already had a release last month, but FootLocker has opened up reservations for the style this morning, with pairs expected to ship in October 2026.
