The Nike Moon Shoe is heading, well, to the moon. The original silhouette to bear the Swoosh logo returned in its original form this season, and new colors like this “Malachite” green option have appeared for an impending Summer drop.
The Nike Moon Shoe is an essential piece of the brand’s history, despite only recently making its way onto the feet of the public. The silhouette was first imagined in 1972, and was one of founder Bill Bowerman’s first successful attempts at making shoe soles in his trusty waffle iron. The Moon Shoe was made in a run of just 12 pairs, and were given to athletes at that year’s Olympic trials, but never released to the public until the Jacquemus collaboration in 2025. Now, Nike has issued their first pairs of the shoe’s original construction, and they are taking over the world of super slim trainers. This week, Rihanna was spotted wearing a pair of the archival trainer, in a move that signaled the end of her Fenty x PUMA partnership, chronicled by Lois Sakany. Nike is prepared for the occasion, with new colors of the retro landing soon. The latest look pits the nylon upper in a bold “Malachite” green, paired with a white Swoosh and gum sole.
