Nike’s Kobe 9 Protro has become a quiet staple of their basketball lineup, issued in a number of new & classic styles over the last eighteen months. This season, the silhouette returns with a smooth new “Daybreak” color scheme, coming soon.
Nike’s relaunched Kobe Bryant sneaker line has been hugely successful for the brand on two fronts. Thanks to Kobe’s insistence that his shoes be reengineered as modern performance models instead of simple retros, Kobe’s spirit lives on on the basketball court, from the NBA down to youth leagues. Secondly, the massive market of sneakerheads who just love his shoes get another chance at archival models, but upgraded with the best performance tech Nike has to offer. The Kobe 9 got its first Protro release in late 2024, and has been one of the quieter staples of their releases ever since, issuing plenty of new standard-issue colors, with almost no special edition releases. That series of drops continues this season with a new “Daybreak” colorway. This look brings a purple-tinted engineered mesh to the upper, pairing it with Thunder Blue accents for the linings, laces, and tongues, and just a dash of Laser Orange, mimicking the sun creeping over the horizon at first light.
