After a year of anticipation, Nike’s wide release of the “Neon” Air Max 95 is almost here. Accompanying the release is a special new style of the Air Max 90, done up in the same color palette, and mimicking the 95’s blocking for an interesting new take on the classic.
Nike’s neon color schemes emerged prominently in the late 1980s and early 1990s, reflecting advances in performance visibility and the era’s bold design language. Bright volt, infrared, and lime tones became signatures of models like the Air Max 90 and Air Max 95, where color highlighted technical innovation such as visible Air cushioning. Designers used neon accents to draw attention to performance features while standing out in competitive running markets. Over time, these colors transitioned into lifestyle fashion, becoming synonymous with Nike’s identity and repeatedly returning through retros, collaborations, and modern performance releases across sport and streetwear.
The most iconic “Neon” color scheme of all time is the Air Max 95’s take on the vibrant green tone. The model celebrated its thirtieth anniversary last year with a special, but limited, release of the beloved style in a new “Big Bubble” format, which returns next week in a much wider availability. This time, Nike has also dressed the Air Max 90 in a matching color palette to accompany the release. The AM90 version does its best impression of the 95’s color blocking for this new style, starting with a white tongue, and transitioning to a grey upper, Anthracite side panels, and finally a black midsole.

Nike’s new “Neon” colorway of the classic Air Max 90 has been scheduled to release next week, on March 5th, 2026, alongside the return of the AM95 Neon. The new take on this iconic runner mimics the color blocking of its 95 counterpart, with a white to black gradient palette. Pairs will be available through both the SNKRS app and select retailers for just $135.
