The Kobe Air Force 1 series is finally upon us. Pairs of the snakeskin-clad Nike AF1 first appeared early this year, before finally hitting stores this season. Releases will apparently continue for the foreseeable future, with this “Triple Black” pair expected as the November 2025 release.
Nike has gone all in on their Kobe line over the last few years, reintroducing his iconic silhouettes through the Protro line. The Protro series came about in the late 2010s, when Nike first approached the Mamba with a pitch to start retroing his sneakers. Bryant rejected the idea of an outright retro, instead asking Nike to adapt his shoes to the modern day, replacing outdated technologies with current ones, thus making them still wearable as performance models. The performance retro category was born, and has dominated the Kobe line ever since.
This year, alongside a huge range of new and old Kobe Protro sneakers, Nike is paying homage to one of the GOATs with a string of Air Force 1 styles, a model that was beloved by Bryant. Releases of the snakeskin Mamba version of the AF1 first appeared early this year, but did not debut until this month in the Court Purple look. Today, another colorway has emerged, a very seasonally appropriate triple black style. The look retains all the details of the other pairs, like the dual 8 and 24 logos on the heels, and the snakeskin patterned upper.
