Nike has unveiled the HyperAdapt 1.0, their long awaited sneaker featuring an automatic lacing mechanism, to become available for sale for Holiday 2016.

The HyperAdapt 1.0 is Nike’s first fully-functioning automatic self-tying shoe with “adaptive” laces. This sneaker utilizes digital, electrical and mechanical technology to create an ideal fit and, as Nike emphasizes, eliminates the distraction of tying one’s shoelaces. According to Nike senior innovator Tiffany Beers, “When you step in, your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten. Then there are two buttons on the side to tighten and loosen. You can adjust it until it’s perfect.” The HyperAdapt 1.0 will be released this holiday season in three different colorways…black, gray and white, all of which are shown below. Pricing has yet to be determined, however please note, they will be released exclusively to members of the company’s fitness portal, Nike+.
