Pharrell Williams’ collection with adidas Originals is expanding exponentially this year. With the launch of the colorful “Holi” collection far behind us, we finally have an official look at the next part of the series; the Pharrell x adidas Solar Hu NMD.
The latest Pharrell x adidas collection is almost here. First leaked at the beginning of this year, the three-part collection has undergone several changes since its inception, the biggest of which has finally surfaced online this week. When the first mock-up images appeared on the internet back in February, the third pair in the new pack featured a bright blue and red color scheme. Now, the final piece of the puzzle has surfaced in official images weeks after the other two, showing the last pair has been revamped with a new pink upper.
The latest addition to Pharrell Williams’ adidas collection recently underwent a name change behind the scenes, moving away from the “Afro” moniker. Now, the new pack will instead be referred to as the “Solar” collection, assumedly due to the bright colors and association with the sun. This decision is unsurprising, given the amount of bad press Williams’ and adidas received when they dropped their Holi collection, which was based around the Indian festival of colors. The “Afro” name was supposed to pay homage to Africa and celebrate the continent, though perhaps adidas felt it best to avoid a media nightmare for another small-scale release.

The next Pharrell Williams x adidas Hu NMD pack is scheduled to release on August 18th, 2018. The colorful new “Afro” renditions will retail for the standard $250 from both adidas and select retailers.
