Late last year, a leak online announced the return of adidas famous ZX500 silhouette, this time with a new twist. The new shoe will also be included in the upcoming collaboration with Dragon Ball Z, and now we have a good look at several colors.

The announcement of a collaboration between adidas and Dragon Ball Z was an enormous surprise. First leaked by the original YeezyMafia account, the project will include a total of eight shoes, each designed after a major character from the show. The collection includes both new and old silhouettes, like the ZX500 RM, a futuristic update to the 80’s classic.

The adidas ZX500 first released in 1984 as the brand’s offering for high-mileage running. The shoe became immensely popular due to its performance and comfort and has now become a beloved Originals silhouette in the modern era. The last time we saw the ZX500, the shoe was true to the original, a collector’s dream. This time around though, adidas is bringing the 80’s cult classic into the future with their beaded Boost technology. Now, thanks to Storebyjc, we have our first look at the upcoming adidas ZX500 RM.

The new look for the adidas ZX500 retains most of the classic design elements from the original. The upper features the same nylon mesh base reinforced by smooth suede paneling. The famous Ghilly Lacing system returns, which utilizes plastic D-rings instead of standard eyelets to secure your laces. Even the midsole retains the dual-density properties of the original, though instead of simply EVA, adidas is packing in a whole lot of Boost. Fans of the NMD line may take interest in the new ZX500 RM, as the EVA sole inserts make for some great colorways.

Included in the leaked new images of the adidas ZX500 RM is our first look at the Dragon Ball Z pair. Themed after Son Goku, this special ZX500’s mesh and suede layers are covered in a bright orange hue. The tongue, stripes, and inner lining come in a deep blue tone, which matches the heel and toe EVA midsole inserts. The latest images reveal DBZ logos on the heels, as well as a cloud-like symbol on the inner side. The medial NMD-like bumper will also feature some sort of writing. Finally, the “Son Goku” adidas ZX500 RM is completed by laces and D-rings as well as a single red EVA insert.

There is currently no expected release date for the adidas ZX500 RM. While we know that the Dragon Ball Z collaboration will release over the course of the Fall and Winter, we can expect the standard colorways to release before then. Given the addition of Boost to the classic ZX500 styling, expect the price to be higher than usual if you’re a fan of the line.
