Michael Jordan cemented his legacy both on and off the court through his incredible play and his eye-catching sneakers. This year, Jordan Brand will celebrate 30 years of the Air Jordan 3 with the Cement “Dunk Series” pack.
Originally released in 1988, 30 years ago, the Air Jordan 3 has held a special place in the hearts of Jordan fans and sneakerheads alike. 2018 will see the return of some of the most iconic colorways of the 3, including both white and black “Cement” variations. This release will see small changes to the shoes, contributing to what makes this 30th anniversary pair so special. The shoes are an ode to Mike’s legendary 1988 Slam Dunk Contest win over Dominique Wilkins. In his city of Chicago, having lost the first round to Wilkins, Jordan stepped up to the key to quickly eye the free-throw line. He then turned around, and casually strolled to the far side of the court. After taking a moment to breathe and set up, Jordan took off towards the opposing basket. After sprinting those 75 feet, Mike took one final step, planting a toe on the free throw line, and taking off for the hoop, slamming the ball down and having to catch himself against the post. It would become one of the most impressive dunks in NBA history, and is memorialized on this new Jordan 3 by a “3:51” on the heel, a nod to the exact time of the dunk. Other noticeable changes to the shoe include the Nike Air branding on the heels, and the white colorway will feature a brand new translucent blue outsole.
