The Air Jordan 1 High is the greatest crossover sneaker in history. Starting on the basketball court before making its way into football and baseball in cleat form, the 1 has done it all. Now, Nike SB is taking some time to develop their very own version.

The Air Jordan 1 has long been a staple of the skateboarding and BMX worlds, almost dating back to the original release in 1985. Skaters found the much-needed ankle support they were looking for in the shoe’s stiff high-top leather construction, as well as plenty of traction to keep them on top of their boards. Because of this, it is no surprise that the skateboarding sector of Nike would give their unique take on the Air Jordan 1 over the years. While it’s been a while since the latest project, this week we have a first look at the upcoming Nike SB x Air Jordan 1 High.

Nike SB’s new Air Jordan is already a masterpiece. Beginning with smooth white leather for the shoe’s classic paneling, the mudguard, lacing system, and heel overlays are dyed in a rich purple tone. Paired with the golden yellow Swoosh and collar lining, the color scheme is starting to go by a “Lakers” moniker, though Jordan Brand might have an interesting twist in store for this. The latest work from Nike SB and Air Jordan first appeared online on the feet of Nike team rider Theotis Beasley. While this is not unordinary, it was the condition of the shoes that surprised us. In the image, Beasley’s pair is noticeably scuffed on the toe box, revealing a bright patch of red underneath. This could mean that the shoe is covered in the brand’s color-changing leather, previously seen on select Wings releases. Over time, the outer color wears away to reveal a new color scheme underneath, and given the red preview on Instagram, these might eventually turn into a pair of red and white Chicago’s with a golden Swoosh.
