Believe it or not, this year April 13th marks the three year anniversary of Kobe Bryant’s retirement from the NBA. For the occasion, the Nike Kyrie 5 “Mamba Mentality” is a nod to Kobe’s “Chaos” Zoom Kobe 5.
We have seen quite of few shoes over the past few days be dedicated to Kobe Bryant as Mamba Day approaches soon. The annual basketball holiday allows many of today’s young NBA stars to express the impact that Bryant has played on their careers. Kyrie Irving looks to dedicate his Kyrie 5 to the joker themed colorway that Kobe debuted ten years ago with his Kobe 5 “Chaos” colorway.
The upper of the shoe consists of a white mesh that sees splashes of bright colors. The Nike Swoosh is painted in Neon green and the grey heel clip is splattered in red. The most notable nod to the Kobe 5 “Chaos” is the dark blue and purple patent leather tongue and the venus fly trap themed overlay. The shoelaces lacing up the upper match perfectly as they appear in dark plum. Throughout the shoe, there is also co-branding. On the tongue, the logo is split half and half with both the Kyries’ and Kobes’. Also, on the heels, a different signature is on each as Kyrie’s is on the left while Kobe’s graces the right. To finish the shoe off, the midsole takes on a red paint splattered white and purple while the outsole is in vibrant neon green.
