Nike introduced their new 270 Airbag this year, and already the design team is back to the drawing table. This week, the Swoosh teased their next innovation: the Air Max 720, launching sometime next year.
Nike’s Air 270 was an impressive new addition to the brand’s Air arsenal this year. As the tallest Nike Air unit on record, the Air Max 270 is an eye-catching shoe from almost any angle, due to the oversized, and usually, colorful airbag resting under the heel. Since the new technology’s introduction during Air Max Month this year, the silhouette has taken off, slowly appearing on the feet of not just die-hard Air Max aficionados, but average consumers as well. While the look wasn’t for everyone, the comfort almost always was. Now, the Swoosh is planning to build off of the excitement for the Air Max 270 with a wild new update.
This week, Nike has shared a first look at what they’re calling the Air 720 sole unit. Using the tallest airbag ever as a basis, the Swoosh is now addressing the many remarks made by critics and fans around the world: why was the 270 exclusive to the shoe’s heel? With the new 720 airbags, that is no longer the case. Nike only shared a single teaser image in their announcement of the 720, which shows the bottom of the shoe from the heel with a small glimpse of the upper. However, thanks to Instagram user BubbleKoppe, we have an early look at Nike’s next addition to their Air Max family.
The new Nike Air Max 720 might be the sleekiest addition to the franchise in years. Just like the Air Max 270 from earlier this year, the 720 was designed as a lifestyle model intended for casual wear. The upper appears to be made from a flexible neoprene-like material with a ribbed pattern across it, as well as iridescent plastic rings to provide support in key areas. As teased by Nike, the midsole features an enormous airbag with a tall heel tapering all the way to the toes of the new silhouette.
The Nike Air Max 720 has only been teased by the brand, however, the new silhouette is expected to launch on or around March’s Air Max Day celebration in 2019. Currently, no retail price is available for the shoe, though, given its predecessor’s statistics and basis in lifestyle, the Air Max 720 is likely to be available from both Nike and select retailers for a reasonable price. Check out the teaser images below for a closer look at the latest Nike Air bag, and stay tuned to JustFreshKicks for more information regarding the release.
