New Balance’s imprint in the world of high fashion has been growing by the week in 2019, most likely due to the recent general consensus that the 990 silhouette is the best fashion-ready sneaker out there in many circles. Since this revelation sometime in the last year or so, the Boston brand has been pumping out exciting new projects, including a string of high-profile collaborations, most recently added to by China’s MADNESS.
Shawn Yue is not exactly a household name in the United States, but he certainly is in China. Known to us as the founder, owner, and operator of MADNESS, he is better known throughout his home country for his extensive and massively successful career as an actor and singer. After establishing MADNESS to share his own curated personal style with the world, he began doing limited collaborations with his favorite brands.
Enter the New Balance 990. Widely regarded the world over as best entry in the 99x franchise, and most notably known for the boundary-leaping 990v4. Using the original 990 as a canvas, Yue and his design team have crafted two minimal takes on the timeless silhouette, one in shades of deep blue and brown with orange accents and the second in varying grey tones with bright green highlights.
MADNESS X NEW BALANCE 990 RELEASE INFORMATION
MADNESS’s new project in collaboration with New Balance is scheduled to release first on April 22nd via the brand’s website, followed shortly by an in-store drop on the 23rd. Both colorways of the 990 will likely carry an elevated retail price, and release exclusively at the Chinese boutique.
