Retro sneakers are running the game right now, and Asics has the running sector on lock with their classic Gel-Keyano 5. First retroed earlier this year, the legendary silhouette is now going under the knife in collaboration with Germany’s GmbH.
GmbH is not necessarily a household name, though their new project with Asics will certainly help. Founded in Berlin, Germany several years ago, the idea of the brand is displayed quite prominently in its name, though you wouldn’t immediately know it. GmbH is more commonly known in their country as the acronym for “Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung” which basically means company or corporation in German. Under the semi monotonous name, they’ve produced a staggering body of work, centered largely on elevated basics through unique cuts or technical aspects. Now, the German fashion brand is working on a new project with one of Europe’s favorite running brands, Asics.
The Asics Gel-Kayano 5 is a perfect candidate for this new collaboration with GmbH. The German design studio has drafted three unique colorways of the 1999 runner, each in a muted tonal color. Using luxurious materials to create a heavily textured look, adding nice details like translucent Tiger branding along the quarter panels, and GmbH branding popping up on either heel.
The new project between GmbH and Asics Europe has not yet been announced for release but given their early appearance online, we expect them to release sometime later this month. The luxurious colorways of the fan-favorite Gel-Kayano will likely retail for more than their usual $100, and release from Asics, GmbH, and select retailers.
