adidas’ famous Boost technology first hit retail in 2013, gaining a cult following in runners rapidly. in 2015, Boost exploded onto the lifestyle scene, at the same time the new Solar Boost model premiered, only to be shadowed by the Yeezy lineup for that year.

The adidas Solar Boost never reached it’s full potential. When it debuted in 2015, Boost had only recently been dragged into the lifestyle scene when Kanye West wore a pair of Energy Boost for a halftime performance at the Staples’ Center. Soon after, the foam bead soles were unstoppable, appearing on the feet of athletes, celebrities, and the everyday people. Now, the Three Stripes is returning to the 2015 silhouette, upgrading the shoe with modern day styles and technology. Along with the renovations set to occur to the adidas Solar Boost, the shoe is also expected to take on four new forms, the Solar Glide and Solar Drive, as well as ST variations of each.

The Solar series was intended to be a breadwinner for the adidas running category, featuring the brand’s most sought after technology as well as debuting in stores for $100. Now, leak account Py_rates has shared images of each of the new silhouettes, including the advancement of the standard adidas Solar Boost, the flagship model of the Solar line. The Solar Boost will be a performance running shoe that takes cues from famous products like the Ultra Boost, while infusing the new silhouette with more recent design and technological elements. The shape of the upper runs somewhere in between the Ultra Boost and AlphaBounce, as well as blending their knit and layered uppers. The toe area appears to feature a flexible knit, which is accessorized with the Riemen system, and doubles the aesthetic stripes as support beams running across your foot. From the toe box backward, there appears to be more structure present, though it is unclear what this material is yet. These sections appear to be covering an inner bootee for a snug fit. The heel is protected by a new heel cup template that looks to be taken almost directly from the Ultra Boost line. Another plastic-looking supper piece extends forward from the rear, separating into yea another distinct supportive layers. These additions bridge the gap between the upper and the full-length Boost midsole.

While no information about the new adidas Solar line has been made available, the shoes can be expected to arrive in stores sometime this year. While little information is available about the shoes, the account responsible for the leaks was able to provide images for each new model of the shoe. With the low sales numbers of the original silhouette, it is an interesting decision from adidas to continue with the series, though there is most likely a purpose.
