adidas started 2018 with a brand new NMD silhouette. Titled the Racer, the new model took inspiration from archival running sneakers. Now, the NMD_Racer takes on a new meaning with the special “Monaco” edition releasing this Summer.
The adidas NMD_Racer has had an interesting start to its career. First debuted in January in both standard colors and a special collaboration, the sleek new NMD has struggled to find footing amongst sneaker fans. Since the original release, no new colorways have released, leaving the OG three sitting on shelves. Now, adidas is doubling back to their latest NMD. The next NMD_Racer begins with a white base for the upper. The standard stripes have been removed from each side, instead replaced with a series of knit black lines used for extra support. Similar lines are featured underneath the laces to add more lockdown to the shoe. The heel cup on the NMD_Racer “Monaco” comes in a new “Redwood” color and is made of smooth, premium leather. Finally, the upper is complete with a black & white collar.
When we first leaked this interesting colorway of the NMD_Racer, there was no solid connection between the shoe and a collaborator. Now, we know that the “Whitaker Car Club” on the heel is meant to represent The Whitaker Group. Whitaker is a brand that oversees and helps retailers manage their social media output. Whitaker is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and encompasses well-known sneaker establishments like Social Status, A Ma Maniere, as well as APB and Prosper.

The Whitaker Group x adidas NMD_Racer is expected to launch sometime in Summer 2018. The limited “Monaco” colorway will retail for $200, and release from select adidas Consortium boutiques.
