adidas is bringing back plenty of classics this year. With the Yung-1 currently taking over social feeds, the shoe’s 80’s counterpart quietly surfaced in a new black and gum colorway overseas. Check out the latest Continental 80’s, coming soon.

The adidas Continental 80’s is making waves among sneakerheads this Summer. Pulled directly from its place in history in the late 1980s, the casual silhouette was originally built as a tennis shoe, meant to compete with the likes of the Stan Smith. However, the Continental never quite gained the traction that adidas had hoped, and the project was scrapped after just a few short years. Fast forward about 30 years, however, and the story is entirely different. in 2017, Kanye West helped adidas reintroduce the Powerphase, another 80’s trainer, back into their arsenal. Extremely similar to the Continental in design, the Powerphase sold out rapidly in all colorways, possibly prompting adidas to dig into their archives for something similar. The result was the Continental 80’s, an archival silhouette with no distinct changes other than the high-grade leather used in construction. This month, the Continental has surfaced in another new color scheme, which paints the smooth leather upper entirely in flat black. The Continental’s signature stripes come in varying shades of grey, while a gum rubber outsole finishes off the look.
