The adidas AlphaBounce line will be going by a new name later this year. When the silhouette was first introduced, Bounce was a brand new technology. Now, adidas is swapping out the stiffer midsole cushioning for their now-legendary Boost.

adidas Performance first debuted the AlphaBounce franchise in June of 2016. The new silhouette was the first shoe to show off a full-length Bounce midsole, which acts like a lighter form of traditional EVA with a higher rate of energy return. The resulting shoe was a hit, and the Alphabounce began to fly off of shelves as one of the best running shoes available at the time. Since then, AlphaBounce has evolved dramatically, releasing in various forms and dozens of colorways. However, the non-performance-minded (read: sneakerheads) crowd always had a different outcome in mind: Boost.

This year, adidas is finally ready to oblige the consumer request for Boost in the Alpha series. However, this doesn’t just boil down to a single decision by the brand. No, it is more likely that adidas spent several years molding, sculpting, and altering Boost midsoles to find a version that would provide all the support and stability that Bounce had for three solid years. This process is long and arduous because it requires countless hours of product testing to achieve the desired result. The new AlphaBoost is a great new look for the franchise. The running team at adidas has done a fantastic job in retaining the construction of the upper while working the Boost to mimic the ridged shape of Bounce perfectly. While adidas has yet to show off the new AlphaBoost themselves, we were given an early look at the refined silhouette by our friend SoleByJC, who happens to have a few pairs in stock.

The new adidas AlphaBoost has not yet been announced for release, though with the production date listed as January 2019, we can expect them in June, during the AlphaBounce’s third anniversary. So far, the reworked Alpha silhouette can be seen in two colorways in SolebyJC’s pictures, though plenty more are likely to be available upon release. The price tag on this new Boosted Alpha silhouette is likely to retail far above the franchise’s usual $100 price tag.
